ORGANIZATION: The Advocates for Human Rights
The Advocates for Human Rights is a non-governmental, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of internationally recognized human rights. The Advocates documents human rights abuses, advocates on behalf of individual victims, educates on human rights issues, and provides training and technical assistance to address and prevent human rights violations.
TYPE: Intern / 8-20 hours
Possible Intern Duties:
The Advocates, a non-profit organization, is seeking a journalism and communications intern to work on branding and communications projects during the Fall 2008 semester. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience while working in an active, upbeat non-profit. Intern(s) may work some hours outside of the office, and must be responsive and meet regularly with staff.
· The Communications Intern will implement The Advocates communications plan through such vehicles as the newsletter, website, media relations and promotional materials.
· Assist with writing articles, editing and gathering information for the newsletter and website
· Email and fax press releases
· Prepare marketing and media packets
· Keep The Advocates image and branding consistent in all communication materials
· Update media list periodically
· Attend events and assist with media relations
· Assist the development/communications team with other projects that may arise.

· Excellent written communication skills
· Interpersonal skills
· Highly organized
· Ability to define and prioritize tasks, keep a schedule and meet deadlines
· Ability to work effectively within a team.
